A brief background of the character: (Sorry, this isn't short.) Sue was born and raised in Long Island, New York, living with her mother and father. However, tragedy struck when she was three and her mother died giving birth to her little brother, Johnny, due to birthing complications.
Sue grew up as the woman of the house, learning to cook and clean at a very early age. Her father was often unemployed and she was forced to raise both him and her little brother in her own fashion. Her father was reminded of his deceased wife every time he looked at his children and his grief only grew, causing him to oftentimes avoid his children all together.
His grief came to a head when Sue was twelve and Johnny was nine and he sought out and murdered the doctor who had delivered Johnny, bringing the carcass home to show to his kids. He cornered Sue in her bedroom and repeatedly called her Mary, her mother’s name, telling her that she had been avenged. Horrified, Sue escaped her father and called the police and her father was taken away, though not before he gave his daughter a rather nasty piece of his mind.
She and her brother were then sent to live with their aunt. Their aunt was a nice enough person, but she played favorites and took much more interest in young Johnny than in Sue, often leaving Sue to her own devices. When Sue was fourteen she began sneaking away to the local college to listen in on lectures on sciences of all sorts. It was here that she found her love of science, and met the man that would change her life, the 22-year-old Reed Richards.
After a year of helping Reed with his theories and preparations, he asked her to come with him on a scientific expedition to space. She, very much in love with him, agreed to go with him. Her brother discovered her plans and threatened to tell their aunt if she didn’t bring him along. Desperate to go and knowing her aunt would stop her, she reluctantly agreed. Along with Reed’s best friend, Ben Grimm, the four stole a space ship and piloted it into space, where they met with a cloud of cosmic radiation. This jump-started Sue’s latent mutation, along with the mutations of the other three. Thus began the Fantastic Four.
The Fantastic Four were very influential in opening the world’s eyes to Super Heroes and making the first step towards acceptance. Most of Sue’s time in the Fantastic Four was spent in the back lines defending the others with her shields, making her the least known member of the team. Though she protested to Reed, reasoning that since she was invisible she could sneak in closer to their enemies to do more damage, Reed rejected this idea, telling Sue he wanted her to remain safe, and she complied. His command was backed up when they realized that Sue became visible only when she used her shields.
However, after only four months in existence, Sue became pregnant, presumably with Reed’s child. Frightened of what the rest of the team would say, she ran away, never to return to the Fantastic Four, and regrettably leaving her brother behind as well.
After being missing for four months, Sue resurfaced when she enrolled in the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. However, after only two weeks at the school, she died from complications with her pregnancy and the cosmic radiation that gave her her powers. When she arrived in Atlantica, she was still pregnant, so she would currently be six months pregnant. While she knows she can leave the world and search for others, she is afraid of travel while she is pregnant, and the water makes the strain on her back almost zero.
